Just happened to drive them back-to-back, and was surprised, considering how much he’s disliked past Camaros and loved past 3-series.

Why 10 years later does a turbo bmw I6 make 10 less horsepower than a NA e46 m3? Inb4 torque

The reviews are incredible. Too bad I really don't like the way it looks...

Runs pretty low levels of boost stock.. Now throw a flash on there and you'll be around 400hp, but your reliability won't be as good as before.

Wouldn’t the 4 series be a better comparison to the Camaro?

The only reason I can see to get the BMW is if you’re a badge snob or you “need” AWD.

They really aren’t competitors to each other. He just happened to drive them back-to-back during the latest COTY testing and was very impressed with the Camaro and let down with the 3-series. In the past, the steering, throttle response, brakes, body control, and chassis balance all would have been things in the BMW’s favor, but with these two cars, that’s no longer the case. Chevrolet is killing it recently, and BMW is losing what once made them stand apart.

I do sincerely hope BMW finds its way again, my friend has an E46 330i ZHP and it’s fantastic.

Btw has been going this direction since the E90. But at that point they were still better than everybody else in most categories because most other companies were building absolute shit in the mid-late 2000’s. BMW hasn’t been the undisputed king of anything since the E46. Now that everyone else is making excellent cars BMW’s shortcomings are much more apparent.

At least the E90 at the beginning had the core of what had always made BMW great. NA engines, great (hydraulic assist) steering, a great chassis and dynamic suspension and brakes. The weight was a concern that generation, but everything else was as it had been. Their focus on selling to luxury or brand-conscious buyers and filling every single possible niche with a vehicle has really gotten them away from what were their core values. The competition has definitely caught up when it comes to driving dynamics. BMW has retained the luxury sales crown for a couple years, but at what cost?

I hope the M2 is as good as it should be, and convinces them that their primary focus still should be building cars with excellent dynamics that entertain and reward their drivers.
